WHAT IS REIKI?

An ancient, powerful, yet gentle healing therapy, Reiki can almost be considered mainstream now, even recognised by many in the medical profession.

Developed by Mikao Usui the early 20th century, it is a non-invasive complementary therapy that has been taught and used in the UK since the late 1900s, however in Eastern medicine it has been used and celebrated for thousands of years.  The word Reiki, translates to ‘universal life energy’ and is based on the understanding that life energy flows through all living things. Reiki supports today’s conventional medicine or can be used alone, it is not, however, replacement for traditional medication or treatments.

especially at difficult times.

How does Reiki Work?

Reiki energy is ‘channelled’ throughout your body, your body will receive just the amount it is able or willing to receive, which enables our bodies to heal naturally.  It is not based on any belief or faith system, yet the exciting thing is science is starting to help us understand how Reiki may work to help any of us heal, through quantum physics research and looking to the future science may soon be able to measure how that energy is transmitted through the Therapists hands.

Healing can take place on many levels. Physically, in conjunction with other medical of therapeutic practices, it can speed up the healing process. Emotionally, it can reduce stress, anxiety and depression and will work if you have something more specific you want to change to create a happier you.

The relaxing nature of Reiki can be incredibly helpful to us, especially at difficult times. We can all feel overwhelmed or disconnected resulting in a sense of isolation. The word Reiki, translates to ‘universal life energy’ and is based on the understanding that life energy flows through all living things. When our energy becomes disrupted or blocked, it can cause stress and dis-ease.

Who can receive Reiki?

Reiki energy naturally occurs in each and every one of us. It is a powerful yet gentle energy that is suitable to be used on everyone from pregnant ladies, babies to the frail and the elderly to bring comfort and peace.

What to expect during a Reiki treatment

You remain fully clothed and lay on the treamtment bed. I will talk initially with you to help you relax, through concentrating on your breathing and other meditative techniques. I then gently place my hands in a series of non-intrusive positions on or near the body. Reiki works to unblock any energy pathways which have become stuck as a result of tension, stress, illness or disease. This then allows your body to feel re balanced, allowing natural healing to take place.

The energy may be felt as a warm, tingling, peaceful sensation or maybe just a sense of calm and tranquillity.

Benefits reported include deep relaxation, promoting a calm, peaceful sense of wellbeing on all levels. Creating greater inner harmony and balance, regular Reiki treatments promote a calmer response to life’s challenges.

Reiki’s gentle energy may be used safely by people of all ages, including pregnant mothers, the new-born, surgical patients, the frail and the elderly, in any situation.
